How can I determine the size of the audio portion of an avi?

In section 8.1.2 "Constant quantizer vx. multipass" of the Manual there is a 
formula to calculate the bitrate. The formula requires the size of the audio 
portion. 

In section 8.1.10 "Audio" there is an example of how to dump the audio into 
a file. You could do this and then check the size of the resulting audio 
file.

Is there a way to determine the size of the audio without dumping it to a 
file?
