[MEncoder-users] Mencoder and AVI headers

Dear all,
 I'm trying to rip a DVD to an AVI file, following the examples from the 
documentation, with MPlayer-1.0pre7.

I noticed that I can see the AVI file with MPlayer, but not with Xine. 
Xine reports: unkown video codec. Indeed, "file xxx.avi" reports an empty 
string for the video codec.

Is it normal? Am I missing any option?
