That's certainly related to your audio problem.

Your capture device is not set correctly.  Most everyone has the same problem.

If you use Alsa drivers, you need to set the "Line" device as capture, and the "Captur" device as capture also.  alsamixer works well.

That's because mplayer doesn't do ANYTHING with audio when playing back TV, it just turns on your tv-tuner, displays the video, and lets your soundcard pass the audio through to your speakers.
