[MEncoder-users] Problem converting a mpeg-ps file to avi

Hey guys, 

I want to reencode a mpeg-ps file to a mpeg4 avi file.
Unfortunately mplayer say "The selected video_out device is incompatible
with this codec. VDecoder init failed :("

I startet it with:
mencoder Refugio.en.el.paraíso.avi -oac copy -ovc lavc -
lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4 -vf scale=352:576  -o output.avi

What I get (after 15mb) as a result is a avi file without video
information.

I looked up the man page, the mailinglist, the html-documenation but I
couldn't find any hint what I'm doing wrong.

Another question: How can I pipe the video stream to stout?

Could anybody help me, please?

I am using Mencoder 1.0pre7 on a Athlon 700Mhz, debian sarge(3.1).
