I tried your options and the two-pass strategy, but it still gives the
same results (resulting file with wrong color in both xine and mplayer).
As a new test, I tried to open it with the Windows Media Player: the
player crashes.

The options you advised me to use are (for the second pass):
mencoder -ovc lavc -lavcopts
vcodec=mpeg4:vpass=2:vbitrate=2645000:vhq:keyint=132:v4mv:vqmin=2:lumi_mask=0.07
:dark_mask=0.2:scplx_mask=0.1:tcplx_mask=0.1:naq -mf type=jpg:w=736:h=736:fps=3
-nosound -o output.avi mf://\*.jpg

I have the following:
MEncoder 1.0pre6-3.4.1 (C) 2000-2004 MPlayer Team
CPU: Sun Sparc

I hope someone will be able to help me get this right. All files I used
are still at http://www.eleves.ens.fr/home/coudert/

Thanks,
FX
