The original source was not progressive, it was interlaced. Depending on what
has been done to the source to upconvert it to HD, it may still be the same
interlaced stream, just transmited as a sequence of 720 pixel high fields
instead of 240 pixels high. Dropping every other frame is the same as
recording normal NTSC video and dropping every other field and then doubling
the height of the fields you do capture. That's a poor way to capture video.
