Actually I have also noticed that mplayer will often crash on a film if 
"mplayer *" is chosen where it can play each film just fine if they are 
played individually (i.e. mplayer film1..pause...mplayer 
film2...pause..etc.). Don't know if this is relevant.

Just my 2.5 cents (adjusted for inflation).
