OK. If I try it out I'll let you know how it goes. If you try it first I'd love to hear your results as well.

There's a document that has information on different intel compilers and the errors they have with ffmpeg here: http://wiki.multimedia.cx/index.php?title=Intel_C_Compiler . I think it needs to be updated for 12.1 though. I think the only way to know for sure is to try it because it seems like the majority of people compiling ffmpeg are using gcc. If you do, I'd be curious as to what results you get. I was thinking about using ICC once, but got scared off with all the issues and decided that it wouldn't be worth the hassle patching stuff every time I wanted to update to a later version of ffmpeg or ICC - which I do fairly often. Who knows though... maybe they've fixed some things with the latest ffmpeg and ICC?

We're looking at the newest version, which I believe is v12.1
We don't actually use many of the codecs, we mainly use it for the muxers/demuxers. (MKV, MP4 & FLV) Although we do use it for the EAC3 decoder and had plans to use the DTS decoder as well. We were also considering using the MPEG-2 encoder/decoder, but that's no concrete. Do you know if any of those things would be effected by compiling with Intel ICC?

I haven't looked into it in the last six months, but the last time I checked, there were a few people who "sort-of" got it working in 2009. Apparently, after doing some low level macro and assembly voodoo to make the code work with Intel's compiler, they were able to compile, but not all functions and codecs were at 100% functionality and some optimization had to be disabled (like mmx). Also, the version of the Intel Compiler you use is very important - different versions will produce different compiler errors.

Is it possible to build FFmpeg in VS2010 with the Intel ICC compiler? We use the LGPL build of FFmpeg in our application and we'd like to be able to debug it when we have problems. Right now it's basically impossible for us to debug the build from MinGW.
