Yes, as far as it goes for your command line, this is to be expected, and totally comprehensive.

State what you want, do you want to trim (cut out parts), just to forward it to other people?
So, what do you want, what are you after?

Again, what are you after? If you need ’some’ kind of computer logic / analysis, uncompressed Wave / PCM CAN be faster / more efficient than compressing it.
In that case, file size does not matter if it’s local, it’s just math on what is cheaper / more efficient.

BUT, since you don’t give any clue what / who has to process the output of your work, trust me, hire a specialist to drag this out of you.
