My bad, try this:

 ffmpeg -threads 8 -hwaccel nvdec -hwaccel_output_format cuda -i "$i"
-vf scale_cuda=720:-1 -c:v h264_nvenc -preset slow "convert/$i";

That should fix the issue above.
