They do, in fact.  Here is a VideoSpec (OS X video analyzing software) report for a program I recorded last night from a DVB-S2 channel in the United States.  Only the "Name" has been changed slightly so as not to reveal the name of the program that was recorded:

I don't know about the rest of the world, but it is very common to use H.264 on DVB-S2 feeds in North America.
