I am not saying I don't understand but did you 
consider that I heard a similar undertone in the 
original mail?
(Which was probably exactly as unintentional as 
the undertone you heard.)

Or to say it differently: Independently of how 
useful it is to post enhancement requests 
(remember that time is the only limitation for 
FFmpeg development), I don't think it makes any 
difference if they are difficult or not (and 
even less difference if a user believes if they 
are difficult or not).

All that said: I would expect that crop and scale 
can do exactly what was requested, please report 
if it does not work.
