Again, I'm not going to get sucked into going back and forth on this, much as I'm perfectly capable of refuting each of Carl Eugen's points.

To answer just one of the points raised, I post here - very rarely - because people need the information.

The OP in this thread was confused about exactly what software he was running. Die-hard ffmpeg advocates are usually unwilling to explain this sort of thing for political reasons. I don't care about the politics. I couldn't care less what development model anyone uses, who forked what, or who offended who. 

I just care about what works.

I strongly recommend that everyone else should take the same position.
