[FFmpeg-user] Why isn't "-q:v <value>" mapped to "-x264opts crf=<value>"?

It seems that with most codecs we can use "-q <value>" option to define
constant quality encoding. With libx264 the -q:v option does not seem to
do anything. The equivalent quality setting is "-x264opts crf=<value>".
I think it would be useful if "-q:v <value>" were mapped to "-x264opts
crf=<value>" when video codec is libx264. Is there a reason why it isn't
so?
