[FFmpeg-user] H264 1080i fast decoding

Hi!
Is it possible to drop top or bottom field of an H264 encoded 1080i video before decoding, to speed up the decoding process? I don't know, how are the streams of top and bottom fields encoded. But if they can be decoded independently, then it would be nice to decode just the top, or just the bottom field, to double the decoding speed.
The goal is to produce raw 540p video from H264 encoded 1080i as fast as possible.
