Hello, thanks for the idea to put the output on a file - however there is no difference, same results. The task still lacks processor power, as shown in the first post:
top - 05:38:12 up 19 days, 16:14, 2 users, load average: 5.24, 4.30, 2.37
%Cpu0 : 91.4 us, 1.7 sy, 0.0 ni, 5.0 id, 0.0 wa, 0.0 hi, 2.0 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu1 : 89.5 us, 1.6 sy, 0.0 ni, 7.6 id, 0.0 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.3 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu2 : 90.7 us, 0.7 sy, 0.0 ni, 8.0 id, 0.0 wa, 0.0 hi, 0.7 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu3 : 91.1 us, 1.3 sy, 0.0 ni, 6.6 id, 0.0 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.0 si, 0.0 st

As for the nice value - it is -20, even if it affects nothing as there is nothing else running on that computer.
 7623 root 0 -20 1632m 781m 7812 S 379.0 20.0 18:47.62 ffmpeg

'preset superfast' has little effect as well. Looks that 2 double-core 64 but Xeon at 3.4Ghz are just not enough for this transcoding? Some ideas what else can be tried?

Thanks, George.
