Reindl:

My application is a FLASH application. FLASH player is doing the encoding.
This is an application that is already deployed on PC's and as I quoted
from the Adobe documentation, they do not support AAC. Therefore I am stuck
with FLV as my source material. I may be able to get flash to save the file
as MP4, but even it I do it will contain SPEEX instead of AAC since the
FLASH application which does the encoding does not support AAC.

You are right that FLASH player can play MP4, but it cannot encode MP4 when
the client software is doing the recording. I cannot put FFMPEG into the
client software. I can only run standard FLASH on the client so I am stuck
with the limitations of the FLASH encoder.

So when a recording is saved to my server from this FLASH client, I use
FFMPEG to transcode industry standard MP4 (MPEG + AAC).
