This is on the ffmpeg.org site:

"May 25, 2010 We have just pushed out another point release from our 
0.5 release branch: FFmpeg 0.5.2."

Many years is less than 2 years? If it is so outdated, why is it still 
being worked  on? It appears that it is still supported and is at 0.5.8 
now, which was updated January 12, 2012.

Not to worry, though. I agree that it is outdated. But apparently there 
are many people out there still using it, so it must have some value.
