[FFmpeg-user] Tagging audio channels

When using sources with multiple audio channels I often get a warning of
the form:-

Guessed Channel Layout for  Input Stream #0.1 : mono
Guessed Channel Layout for  Input Stream #0.2 : mono
Guessed Channel Layout for  Input Stream #0.3 : mono
Guessed Channel Layout for  Input Stream #0.4 : mono

Which is fine, but if I am amerging these into a single 4 channel stream
is there any way of tagging the resultant channels with something
sensible (like L/R L/R for main and alternative stereo) to avoid further
ambiguity?
