ffmpeg is like the swiss army knife of multimedia. In fact, it is like
the super-duper swiss army knife you could never afford, with 23423423
different tools on it. It can do almost anything you need to do to
almost any kind of multimedia file.
However, like a swiss army knife, if you don't read the manual,
practice and understand how each tool works, a lot of the tools will
just be useless to you. It doesn't matter how many attachments or
tools the knife has, if you only know how to use the blade.
Just to stretch the analogy beyond breaking, there are times it's not
appropriate to use a swiss army knife, and instead bust out the
specialist tool.
Er - it was the office xmas party today, so I'm struggling to get to
the point - yes ffmpeg is tricky. If you want to do stuff with
multimedia, it is worth putting some effort in to work out how to use
it, since it is miles better than learning a new tool each time you
need to do something.
Cheers
Tom
