[FFmpeg-user] Getting bitrate of a stream

Hello

I need to find out the bitrate of audio and video stream in file (they 
have only one video and audio stream), using commandline tool (in a script)

I find ffprobe unreliable: first, returned string is not easy to parse 
because it depends on codec used, sometimes it does not show bitrate 
information at all (XviD), or reports bitrate unreliable (mp3).

Is there a better tool for such job?
