>From memory, you need Mencoder.
(And for very simple stuff, i believe VLC can do it as well, not sure if it
can be done using a command line)
But, i don't know how much control you have over the final look. (Probably
not much...)
Currently i run Avisynth with pre-rendered bitmaps, looking for a way to use
the Overlay function in FFmpeg.
