Sounds like an excellent idea for the front-end application to
implement: after all, it's responsible for presenting data (as it sees
fit) to the end user.
Messing about with that formatting at a deeper level (ie., within
ffmpeg) is simply asking to break every other front-end application,
which isn't a win for anyone.
