[FFmpeg-soc] Anyone mentoring a J2K codec project?

I'm a Masters student in EE, from Simon Fraser University, in Vancouver, BC, Canada. 


I am interested in taking up the J2K codec project. Is anyone mentoring this project? What would be a good qualification task for this project?
