I know that this is as in vfilters, but what's the point of having
cur_buf with that underscore (i.e. wy not curbuf)?

Would be OK to change:
cur_pic -> curpic

(or the other way round, that is:
outpic  -> out_pic
srcpic  -> src_pic)?
