Well... an obvious solution is to make the decoder bit-exact.
Or otherwise I'd expect that the encoder is responsible for making
sure the decoding error can not become too big in case of not-bit-exact
decoders.
Of course you have to keep the decoder to the specification and use the
specified precision where one is specified.
