The "if Nicolas had apologized" part is a bit terse, there's things going
on behind the scenes that are not visible. The CC members had previously
agreed that if discussions got heated, we wouldn't debate extensively
before getting involved: bans need to be voted on, but asking people to be
nice does not. This is in line with what the community asked for over the
past few months. Also, such communications can be private, but we CC
cc at ffmpeg.org to make sure we don't all send the same message.

In light of that, I sent a private email to Nicolas, CC'ed to cc at ffmpeg.org,
saying the following:

"You really have to learn to tone down the venom in your voice. This is not
how friends or colleagues interact.

My friendly CC-hat recommendation is that you take the comment back,
apologize for the tone, or something to that effect. Probably a combination
of the above."

There was no follow-up from Nicolas, unfortunately.

The CC consists of 5 members, and only 2 of them voted for a ban. 2/5 is
not a majority and therefore no ban was enacted. This seems correct to me.
