This is documented already in doc/infra,txt
    Git:
    ~~~~
    Public facing git is provided by our infra, (https://git.ffmpeg.org/gitweb)
    main developer ffmpeg git repository for historic reasons is provided by (git at source.ffmpeg.org:ffmpeg)
its: "historic reasons"
We in fact have all infrastructure on ffmpeg servers to handle
git at source.ffmpeg.org:ffmpeg
it would just need a few hooks and mirror scripts to be updated
Entering random URLs does sometimes produce errors
