I might have mistakenly be thinking of mdcv, which the PDf you linked from Apple
lists as being in SMPTE 2084 (I don't have a copy of that spec on hand currently...).

QTFF is a bit odd in that the 'spec' seems to be 'what Apple says' sometimes.

Was just a thought - no strong opinion.
