ubuntu 12.04 LTS has SDL 1.2, no 2.0
its supported till 2017-04-26

should we keep old ffplay as a ffplay-sdl1 until then ?

If a bugfix only changes things apparently unrelated to the bug with no
further explanation, that is a good sign that the bugfix is wrong.
