Let's not call names. "They" are not "the dark side", they're Libav.

If users want to discuss the specifics of this new API, they should not
come to you, anonymously and untraceably (not to mention unverifiable), but
to the developer mailinglist which all of us read. It's hard to base any
future project decision on rumours.
