The new demuxer was written based on the official ASF spec, and was
tested against a number of real world samples.

Also, the code being old is really meaningless here. The old demuxer
didn't handle all files well either and it's probably full of bugs.

This is wrong. The code has been in review for several months before it
was finally merged.

It is known that it fixed some samples. Also, no samples are known yet
that break with the new demuxers. I only see some wild claims from you,
without providing actual sample files. Last but not least, if there are
samples which break the new demuxer, the author of the new demuxer
could probably easily fix them.
