Many people have made such claims and backtracked in the end.

Sorry, but what does it add to FFmpeg, exactly? "Rich codec" means
nothing...
FFmpeg has the best software codec library and supports already both
VAAPI and VDPAU, on Linux.

This smells a lot like NIH, bad design and feature creep...
