In other words: is this sentence enough to grant copyright?

Only a judge can tell you that with any sort of definitiveness, and I must
say I have no idea what the answer would be; you would probably get three
different answers if you asked two different judges anyway.

Barring that, and unless the original author complained (note that the
original author for that particular feature submitted to libav anyway), I
believe we can trust Luca's judgement.
