I agree with all your above statements, but the use caae I had in mind was
somebody bundling ffmpeg binaries or depending on an ffmpeg binary (e.g.
GUIs that make use of ffmpeg). A user who uses SW like that or a user who
needs a GUI to work with ffmpeg is most likely not an advanced user in the
first place.

A user who runs ffmpeg on the commandline won't need my patch anyway.
