Actually, I suspect you are making a mistake in vocabulary.

Unless I am mistaken, exponential is for "x -> a^x", with x the parameter
and a a constant (which may be a parameter on its own right, but at another
level).

Gamma is "x -> x^2.2", that is just a power function.
