There is no intention to change the default. My proposal was to directly offer applications a choice what to decode it to.
The alternative suggested means they have to decide beforehand if they want alpha or not and set a flag accordingly.
Not that much of a difference, it is easier for testing on the one hand, in the other hand I do not like to leave part of the frame uninitialized, do I'd prefer to change the output pixfmt to match the actual contents, unless that is considered too complex, too.
