WebVTT is a text format, using \0, for example, was not an option.

I am sure of it, for valid files. But this choice of delimiter makes it
harder to detect broken files, like files where the muxer neglected one of
the fields, and makes it also harder to extend the format with additional
fields.
Anyway, there is no point in dwelling on what can not be changed. I suggest
we wait for Clément to be able to join the discussion comfortably.
