or you may provide the general equation:

Is there a reason to set this here rather than in init()? 

Also why are you splitting setting logic in set_options() and
config_props()?

That's going to make hard to understand the overall logic, especially
since you'll also need to call these functions from process_command().

please keep it short and parser-friendly, DEBUG logs are not supposed
to be user-friendly, something like hue:%f saturation:%f time:%f
should do.

I still think there is a lot of logic duplication here, ideally this
function should only call set_options() when "reinit" is called.
