Needed peak data in a way that made sense to us and to also create peak data files. Not to say whatever is in libavfilter for this
doesnt make sense, it was just easy to do and the way I needed it to work without depending on another library for it.

Any kind of visual effect I might need is directed to the hardware.

Some things I would rather specialize and just so far there is nothing in libavfilter I need. I am not sure what else to say about
it and it is probably useful for some.

For example: Why would would I want libavfilter messing around with alpha when it's just one quick switch to the hardware call ?

I think libavfilter is probably useful for some, but not so useful for others. This is just my perspective and I think original
email asked for input.
