Cool, that'll be handy, though there doesn't appear to be much 
information about the alpha channel compression scheme out there.

It's lossless and up to 16bit, I'm guessing it's probably independent of 
the other channels bit depth.

Nope no samples to hand, I'm just going on what the white papers says.
