Also there is VideoLAN. The point is that something is better than
nothing at all, and relying on a pre-existing organization with a
working framework should help to get started with donations and all.

Then we're free to leave at any point, especially if we see solutions
which suit us better.

Feel free to brainstorm on this, since this is a novel area for many
of us then the more we share about what the know the better it is.

FFmtech has issues which had been discussed on this list, so I believe
it is better to rely on an alternative solution for the moment. Also
relying on an external organization should avoid too much overhead due
to bookkeping/consulting in the fiscal/legal area for which the
average FLOSS contributor has no special expertise.
