I think you are right on this, and my original wrapper didn't
even read them in such a manner (see: 
http://ffmpeg.org/pipermail/ffmpeg-devel/2011-October/115872.html).

Unfortunately, I do now currently have access to a big endian system,
so I cannot test this in practice.
