I confirm: on Solaris 8-9 or something, wchar_t is the Unicode codepoint in
UTF-8 locales but in ISO-8859-1 locales, non-ASCII characters are coded with
some kind of high-order bits set. I do not remember the details, but I am
certain that is definitely not the Unicode codepoint. The fact that the same
character has different wchar_t values depending on the locale is especially
braindead IMHO.
