I'm against having many repositories for no strong reasons, that's
just complicating the maintainance and the burden on users which want
a specific feature, it makes sense where there are regressions or for
experimental code which may have bad interactions with the rest of the
codebase. I don't think these conditions apply for the present case.

+1, and please give clear indications about which operations need to
be done by developers for migrating to the new repo.
