what do you mean by outperforming? Encoding/Decoding speed, Compression ratio or both?
Is there a quotable test with recent versions?

What colorspaces does x264 support?

@Peter: Michael just removed the mark ?experimental? from FFV1 today.

I like FFV1 too but it supports only a few colorspaces. Maybe a future support of P-frames can improve compression ratio. It seems to be planned in the code already.
