Speaking for the devil, I at some point (long before FFmpeg had
longname, but under the same current ABI) had a table of longnames in
GStreamer that identified the codec that it was to set the longname
for by ... name (the exact, comma-separated one). I also remember this
breaking several times.

But so point being, people use it for the strangest of things.
