My computer, and I suspect many others, is fast enough to decode
anything I throw at it on a single core.  I don't need the pthreads.

So turn it on in some FATE config on a multi-core machine.

So you'd rather have others typing --disable-pthreads?  Wouldn't they
get equally tired of that?
