I understand this kind of reaction to a RTFM-like dumbo question, but 
not to something more involved. My question contains notions that are 
visible only at the implementation level (internal DTS), and also 
implies that I've made the mpegts mux to work with a hardware decoder, 
which is admittedly not trivial even with the HEAD. For these reasons I 
expected a bit more warmth from you guys.

If my question *is* a dumbo RTFM, please say so.
Otherwise, your reaction doesn't make sense to me.
