Well, I extrapolated from the other attempt to patch it and user
requests (though the last from MPlayer lists). I had the impression the
majority only want to convert to MPEG-4 or flv or whatever.

Maybe there will be some work done now, but note that the first attempt
was at least in July 2007, so I considered it a question of supporting
v210 with 8-bit/component or not at all, handling it correctly did not
seem like a realistic (as in: someone will implement it) option to me.
I let myself happily be proven wrong.
